| Ready packed and sliced sausages and cheeses are strong consumer favourites. Yet despite this, manufacturers remain under considerable price pressure in retail markets, so they seek innovative ways to increase production performance. In response to this, CFS will introduce the CFS GigaSlicer at Interpack 2008 (Dusseldorf, Germany, 24 to 30 April 2008), a slicer set to become a benchmark in terms of capacity, efficiency, product quality and hygiene. | | | |

| Cost reduction per pack
With its slicing area of 550 x 210 mm, the CFS GigaSlicer is the largest in its class. It typically slices one lane more than conventional machines, for example, five 110 mm diameter sausages instead of just four. Jörg Schmeiser, Director Product Management CFS, says, “The extra performance delivered by the CFS GigaSlicer helps meat and cheese processors operate more cost effectively. And when used together with the CFS PowerPak NT, currently the only thermoformer that can complement the CFS GigaSlicer’s performance, sliced portions are packed at a higher capacity than comparable combinations on the market today. This really brings the cost per package down.”
Optimised slice- and portion quality
To deliver consistent slicing and portioning quality, it features a patented idle cut rotor that avoids sliver slices and guarantees consistent slice thickness. The knife is also easily adjusted to the ideal position for a specific application by moving the rotor head in x-y directions. In addition, the CFS GigaSlicer handles 3.2 m long products and can be quickly reloaded.
Simplified cleaning and maintenance
Hygiene and maintenance friendliness of the CFS GigaSlicer also received specially attention during the design. The novel mechanical construction separates the product zone from the control and drive zone to minimize contamination as well as simplify cleaning. Main components are easily accessible, while most parts that come into contact with the product can be removed for cleaning without tools, further improving sanitation, speeding up maintenance and reducing operational costs. | | | |
